The government broke the on demand supply chain when they left the single market and killed freedom of movement the Pandemic has acted like a accelerant. This has been slowly evolving since Jan, before we left the EU many companies stocked up what were seeing now is the inevitable consequences of the Johnson Deal.

There is only 2000 Army drivers and they won't have the appropriate insurance anyway.

@msquared6695 Great idea having untrained drivers running round a cargo full of inflammable petrol what could go wrong

It was known a decade ago the Road Haulage association has mentioned it to government more than once. It takes about a year for HGV driver to be regarded as fully competent And our shortage is acute accelerated and magnified by Brexit with the Pandemic acting as an accelerant to the Brexit damage

@Hogdog4343 Wage policy is nothing to do with the road haulage association it's a function of government. The Cons have gone for a free market trumps everything approach so no investment in lorry parks with sanitary facilities across the country no forward planning and training programs with government investment and when it all goes tits up blame Labour the EU and companies being too woke

@MarkXHolland it's way worse than I thought it would be the pandemic has escalated the free market fundamental ideology and taken a flame thrower to it, we are seriously fkd, there is no way back short term in the next couple of years. I used to work in IT large scale integrated projects the level of disconnect the Johnson cabinet has is breathtaking if they don't declare an emergency and deal with it asap were screwed companies up and down the country are just going to go bankrupt

Europe has 500 million people in it and has frictionless trade + freedom of movement, we have 100k shortage without factoring in the extra number of drivers needed to cover for port delays and changes to Freightage due to Brexit. 100k say plus 5% so 120k shortage and were loosing 600 per month according to the road hauliers assoc. So we need 27.2k just to stand still so the EU shortage is under 10% and ours is going to be near 30% But hey the Brexiteers were always bad at maths and we have to keep those foreign drivers out because racism
