Asylum applications in 2018 where below 20,000 there now around 40,000 what has changed over the 5 years is the numbers stuck in the system has gone from 35,000 to 165,000 Numbers have gone up but not to the levels we saw during the Kosovo war or the Iraq crisis I don't think its unreasonable to expect us to take 50-60,000 per year

@joancooley1387 Every economist I've read opine on the topic reckoned she was as mad as a box of frogs Even the gilt traders thought she had a screw loose. Indiscriminate Unfunded tax cuts produce 1 thing that's debt

@joancooley1387 He's still doing trickle down supply side economics Millionaire pensioners 2 billion tax cut Fossil industry 6 Billion Tax Cut Bankers 8 billion Tax cut But screwing the rest of us for the money to the tune of around £1000 per person. The Truss budget left us with a 30 billion hole. Trickle down has never worked Trump Tax cuts put a multi trillion hole in US finances Cameron increased the debt to GDP with his in 2010 it was 62% by 2019 it was 92% (2015 year of the tax cuts it was 87%) The only reason Thatcher made it look like it was vaguely working was on the back of Asset stripping Globalization and Oil Money Trickle down supply side is a busted flush never worked never will Truss would have had to open up the economy to unlimited Supply side labour to even get it to stand still (India was the Plan) and we'd already busted the economy with Brexit Read "Arguing with Zombies" By Nobel Economist Paul Krugman and "The Capital Order" By Clara Mattei (Political Economist)

seems pleasant enough to me especially as he's not going to strut around introducing madcap schemes to make the migrant situation worse

@andythoms8130 because the stats on criminal justice say so they've been going up steadily since Starmer left the DPP in 2013 the main reason being Austerity cuts but useless ministers make it worse Ken Clarke was Justice minister from 2010 to 2012 did a decent job but at that time the rot the started to set in it was with Chris Failing Grayling.
