@ImmuneGEORGE I nearly took out an interest only mortgage to pay for an extension if your talking a maturing mortgage they would be on a rate that was near rock bottom 5 years ago. They have widely been withdrawn at the time the repayments were £250 a month but £500 on a repayment so its quit easy to see how it's gone up to £1000 if he's financed an extension with that type of product.
