We won't know if the Fed got it wrong till later next year because no one has ever run it in a pandemic Consumer spending is through the roof were off an Oil price high and the cost of container shipping has gone up by 330% over the last 18 months there is nothing the Fed can do about that. If it raises rate too much it will affect US manufacturing which has been increasing and expanding month on month for the last 18 as more people try source goods and components from the US as the pandemic has taken its toll on world trade. The behemoth of the US economy is slowly restructuring itself it wouldn't surprise me if a lot of those technically leaving the workforce aren't starting up their own businesses given demand.

There is some remarkable data under the surface if you look, container prices worldwide up 330% for shipping goods, Oil up 25%, Natural gas Up , crops damaged by the late Polar event and summer drought (climate change). On the plus side manufacturing is up in the US for the 18th month straight US firms are building factories in the US again (Intel Arizona Tesla Texas and Arizona Ford Kentucky) Employment is at near full employment with small businesses springing up all over especially in manufacturing as costs to ship from across the globe skyrockets.   17. When the pandemic hit the economy split into 2, those that could upgraded systems networks and production facilities basically went their own way. We're at the start of the 4th industrial age which got a Covid boost, biotechnology automation remote working green energy development etc. If you look at some of the fundamentals of say Tesla their costs are coming down, working for a Tech company ours are too less travel and a hybrid work model with 1 to 2 days a week in the office at most and all customer upgrades installs and maintenance is done remotely.

I work in IT we have huge shortages of qualified staff, there is no way a company can force people to work as before rather than remote for part of the week or even dictate hours. 2 days a month is all I'm in the office theses days and that's here to stay if the company don't like it others will offer the remote working to suit because it broadens the employee base. Quite a few companies have built on the distributed model and got rid of office space reducing costs as well as introducing more cloud based systems.

By the way I went this route on cost as well as having lived through 2 previous oil crisis and if everyone that could afford it like me did this it would help a lot. They can't do anything about wholesale commodity prices but the final mile delivery will get cheaper as they move to EV. Inflation isn't affecting the Tech economy in fact costs are coming down. Household inflation is personal our bills have gone down over the last couple of years. Remote working and only in the office 3/4 times a month saves us on travel plus going to Starbucks on a lunchtime and we've also done some lifestyle changes.   83.  @daegueric  Tesla have opened a mega pack factory (for grid buffering) in Arizona, a lot of the stuff you read about with Elon is they've insourced a lot of the production you'd expect the stuff he's building to get cheaper or produce bigger margins. Looking recently I was surprised at how cheap solar/wind energy now is per MWH it's under a half of fossil and a third of nuclear. With an increase in electric vehicles and I mean like buses and last mile delivery taking off you'll need a lot of new grid infrastructure around cities. Interesting times

The bulk of US wealth is in the hands of the 1% that figure hasn't changed with the increase in money supply, they don't know what to do with their money already bar becoming Space tourists. As someone reasonably well off nearing retirement my 401 has been blasting away well beyond inflation that additional wealth is locked up till I retire and a part of that additional wealth is generated by cheap money and fed easing but its not entering the economy for a few years yet. Corporate America appears over the last number of years to be addicted to low interest rates and a low wage economy with the labour shortages increasing wages especially at the bottom the economy is readjusting put on top of that fossil demand.

Most of the inflation drivers are Oil and energy related in Europe they hit 20% for EV registrations in JAN their gas price is double the US funnily enough Texas is the leader in wind generation and there is a veritable boom in the renewable sector as Natural Gas and Oil continue to rise in price

The company I work for aren't going back to a fixed office model but hybrid with hot desks reducing its office space requirement by half, the little amount of on site installs I used to do is now zero not that there was a need to go on site but some companies proffered it.

If you were doing it by the text books you'd have higher interest rates to match but that would likely strangle the economy lead to high unemployment and a lot of bankruptcy. Powell was appointed by the GOP admin the current administration didn't want a fight over it so renominated him like whose ever run the Fed during a pandemic before?

Both these phenomenon's drive Storms to a more intense level on average producing higher winds and more rain. Also the Arctic polar Vortex is weakening which will lead to more frequent arctic cold snaps. California wildfires are increasing because of higher temperatures and less water on the land prolonging the fire season. There are a whole range of measures which need to happen to reverse this but your not interested so I won't bother. The Colorado river is continuing to dry up but hey here's a bucket of sand go stick your head in it
