You need to look at medical spending in terms of GDP, the US has a higher per capita spending on healthcare than Europe and Canada and it has the best healthcare in the western world (for those that can afford it) and the worst (for those that can't). Universal healthcare if implemented would save the country a literal a fortune as the current US GDP spending has risen to 18% the average for the EU is 10.5% Its not unfeasible that US could as a country save a Trillion dollars in Healthcare based on 2017 figures lord knows how bloated that figure is now in 2020.
