Tear gas dictionary meaning - gas that causes sever irritation to the eyes. Pepper spray - capsaicin a chemical derived from the capsicum genus using ethanol which is then paired with an emulsifier such as propylene glycol then processed to act like a grenade and dispersed like smoke. Sounds like a lot of chemicals to me and it's not well regulated on how strong the stuff is. Anyone ordering this stuff deployed or deploying it needs to have gone in a room without protective clothing and had one of these set off so they know exactly what there doing and while we're at it fire some rubber bullets at them.
