The right wing media have hammered into the people again and again that it is tribal, the hard core Republican support has been indoctrinated into a belief that everything a Democrat does has to be opposed at all costs. They cannot be seen to have a win, the ultimate expression of this is Texas and Florida no matter how sensible and logical the covid response is they MUST oppose it. Biden cannot be seen to win even if it kills swathes of people and cripples state businesses he must be seen aa a failure at all costs. If they retake the house or the Senate it won't be gridlock anymore it will be revenge
