Because the Conservatives have increased borrowing from 62% of GDP in 2010 to 92% in 2019 and now > 100% If your debt to GDP was anything like during Labour's tenure 45 ish till the banking crisis it wouldn't have been such an issue blame Cameron and Austerity

@AutoAlligator The pandemic only accounts for a small fraction of our debt we'd already run up a sizable tab due to Camerons tax cuts for the rich that produced ZERO growth and zero extra revenue for the exchequer. We're also in the process of crashing our economy with Brexit so not surprising the markets thought Kwerteng was talking bollox about growth
