  1. Our consciousness has evolved to enable us to deal with those parts of "reality" which we need to be able to deal with in order to survive. But there's a lot, lot more going on. Broadly speaking we can call the area of our perceptions "territory" which we must conquer and retain. Is it possible that both the sub-atomic world and the further reaches of the cosmos are not "territory" at all, but something entirely different? We have no choice but to use the organs of perception we have developed to deal with life on the surface of the planet and we have no choice but to interpret the sub atomic world and the world of outer space in terms of "territory", which they are not. Damn. I swore not to drink so much coffee today.
