@David-jw7km It took them eight months and they incurred huge casualties. Two year later the Russians regained it in three weeks.

@jurbroek8117 And when will Ukraine be in a position to sustain such casualties? Retaking Donbass must surely come first - and that won't be easy either.

@priyajoseph7108 When Ukraine is in charge of the referendum Crimeans want to be Ukrainian. When Russia is in charge, they want to be Russian. Funny that.

@giuseppeferreri6640 They have Odessa. Unless Ukraine reconsiders its position even that might eventually be taken from them. Compromise could have prevented this war. Compromise can end it.

@Bayard1503 A sequence which Russia might well prefer. Although Crimea has considerable mineral resources they do not match the vast wealth beneath the ground in Donbass. Why Ukraine should be so set on regaining either is something of a puzzle. The vast cost of the enterprise has bankrupted them already, and being in hock to the Americans for all eternity seems to be a less preferable alternative than allowing Russia to continue to exploit these resources on Ukraine's behalf.
