Some hope.

I do so admire wishful thinking.

@filipe5722 It was the West ((mainly America and NATO) which wanted war. Without their interference Russia and Ukraine could have settled their little quarrel quite peaceably.

Let's face it, this whole adventure has been a bid by the West to get its hands on the vast mineral wealth beneath the ground in Donbass and Crimea. Billions have been invested and although there's an estimated $14trillion oil, gas, coal and rare earth minerals down there, the investment isn't paying off. There will be those who will wish to throw good money after bad, but I think wiser voices will prevail and a depleted Ukraine will have to face the consequences of hitching itself to the wrong waggon.

@Sol_Invictus_ It made it pretty impossible for Russia not to do so, after investing billions in creating a new Ukrainian army to retake Crimea and independent Donbass. Russia isn't one of those countries that just sits back and takes it while America goes crashing around in its big boots.

@dalekrenegade2596 Then why did America and other NATO countries spend billions on equipping and training a Ukrainian army? Putin already had Crimea and wanted to set up Donbass as an independent republic in order to keep control of its mineral deposits. Nothing wrong with that - but it didn't suit those in the West who wanted to get their hands on them.

@dalekrenegade2596 The war is unnecessary. Putin's compromise proposals, ensuring that the heavily Russianised parts of the country would be prevented from joining NATO and the EU, were fair and workable and infinitely preferable to the present carnage.
