What would happen to the rouble if -say - Russia gained victory and a good peace settlement in Ukraine, establishing its continued control over Donbass? Would the rouble then shoot up in value? Would now be a good time to invest in roubles if gambling on this possibility?

@mohhie I was thinking more of a situation where the war was actually over and Donbass (and Crimea)was either acknowledged as being Russian or granted autonomous status, as per the Minsk Accords.

@jabloko992 This is not correct. Donbass is sitting on trillions of dollars in mineral wealth and the population which has remained - and is coming back - are generally Russians and fully supportive of the Russian regime. A programme of rebuilding is already under way and Mariupol is being rebuilt as a bright, modern city - as will the rest of the area once the war is over. Sanctions are at last beginning to bite, but Russia is largely self-sufficient in food and continues to gain considerable income from the export of gas, oil and grain to countries who aren't half-way up America's jacksie.

@ryltair The people living in the new apartment blocks seem quite pleased, according to their vlogs, and they look pretty good from the outside. Russian building standards are actually quite high. they make excellent nuclear power stations and the Moscow Metro is a sight to behold, now with several new stations recently opened. Credit where credit is due, I think.
