He's right. There really is no alternative. Time after time the Israelis have tried to form civilised relationships with the Arabs and time after time these overtures have been met with violence. Until the Arabs entirely reject Hamas and other extremist terrorists they must - tragically - accept the terrible consequences of their decision.

@grief1 No. It was a reasonable assessment. It will be a long haul and in any case I doubt the Arabs will have the sense to get shot of the extremists anyway anytime soon. When and if they do the situation will be entirely different to what it is today. So without a crystal ball no-one can actually predict the future with any accuracy.

@Bunnyroo7 That is , of course, another possibility but even with Hamas gone I imagine the two-state solution will be considered dangerous to many Israelis. A greater Israel, including Gaza, would probably make them feel safer.

@Bunnyroo7 I agree. One can only hope that future generations of Muslims will be able to become de-radicalised and so integrate more fully into Israeli society. Christianity was in a similar position in the Middle Ages and just as trapped in a death-obsessed mindset. Perhaps Islam needs an Enlightenment of its own.
