@stephenclarke2206 But he is not a communist. Only academics and students are communists these days. I don't think he wants the satellite states to come under Russian rule either. But he doesn't want them to fall under Western influence and thus present a military threat -which is why he is resisting attempts to make Ukraine part of NATO.

@stephenclarke2206 Not to invade -but to make it a member. Ukraine is in the pocket of the corrupt US administration. These nutjobs will do anything for power, profit and personal advancement. Putin has to make it clear he will stand up to them, as well as protecting the very many Russian heritage people in Ukraine.

@stephenclarke2206 It's about the Russian people, not the Ukrainian people. If the Ukrainian government fully joins NATO then this represents a direct threat to Russia. We mustn't forget that Ukraine, like N Ireland and Israel, is a country which owes its existence to colonisation. Russia made it what it is today. For the US to bribe and bully its way into government, as it clearly is doing, is a threat to the balance of power in the region. How would the US react, for example, if the Russians began building missile sites in Cuba as the Soviet Union did in the 1960s? Or what would the UK feel about the Republic of Ireland leaving the EU and joining the Russian Federation? Ukraine is already part-member of both NATO and the EU. Putin's actions are a direct result of hawks in the Biden administration seeking to alter its status to allow it to become an outpost of the US military.
