... or the end of NATO more likely.

Thanks for this. It explains quite a bit. I might steal some of it, if that's all right?

The Russians pushed towards Kiev in order to draw the Ukrainians into battle on its own territory, instead of in Donbass or Crimea. The object of the exercise was to reduce the Ukrainian army by attrition and sacrifice. This has been largely successful and the much-depleted Ukrainians are now being slowly forced back to the Donbass border. I fully endorse the comment by @pjblackham8554.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine was a pre-emptive strike. America and its NATO allies had spent billions of creating a new Ukrainian army which was poised to retake Crimea from Russia and the rebel Donbass republics from the Russian-Ukrainian insurgents. Attempts by Russia to arrive at a peaceful solution were rebuffed by Zelensky on instructions from his NATO masters. Putin had little choice but to invade. His tactic was to thrust deep into Ukraine, thus drawing the Ukrainian army into battle on its own territory instead of that occupied by Russia and Russian sympathisers, as NATO had originally intended. This has largely worked and the much-reduced Ukrainian armed forces are now falling back as Russia heads towards the Donbass border. As to your other point I append a rough list of countries which have been invaded by NATO or had coups supported by NATO in recent years. In many cases the conflicts that already existed had been deliberately inflamed by outside interests, often American. In all cases the consequences of these interventions can be seen as of benefit to the US economy in one way or another. America is the policeman of the world, yes. But it is a bent cop. I fully endorse the post by @pjblackham8554. I would also like to add that the Russian invasion of Ukraine was a pre-emptive strike, designed to prevent the multi-billion dollar army created for Ukraine by NATO from attempting to recapture the Donbass republics from the insurgents and Crimea from the Russians. His tactic was to take the battle to the enemy by drawing the Ukrainians into their own territory, away from the borders, and reducing them there through a campaign of attrition and sacrifice. This way all the serious fighting and subsequent damage has taken place on Ukrainian territory, not Russian or Russian -leaning. This tactic has been successful and the much-reduced Ukrainian army is now being forced back to the Donbass border, at which point I am sure Putin will sue for peace.

The Russians pushed towards Kiev in order to draw the Ukrainians into battle on their own territory, and there to reduce them by attrition and sacrifice. This has been successful, and the much depleted Ukrainians are now gradually being forced back to the Donbass border. It is worth noting that the Ukrainian army was largely paid for by NATO to the tune of at least $25billion.
