  1. Whenever one of our 17 GPs arrives at our local surgery for a monthly visit we strew the driveway with rose petals. Those of us who have managed to convince the receptionists that we might actually be dying can sometimes be allowed a brief conversation over the telephone some hours later. These are genuinely cherished moments.
