In fact the Ukrainians have retreated and Russia now holds the ground.

@Handler9 Russia has no plan to reach Kiev.

@MrSlanderer What happened the first time is that Ukraine's armed forces were considerably reduced defending Kiev. They are now being considerably reduced defending Kharkiv. Meanwhile the Russians are taking advantage of Ukraine's energies being dissipated elsewhere by advancing along the southern front, where the real war is.

@Handler9 The plan was to draw Ukraine into battle on its own territory, not in rebel-held Donbass. It worked.

@sealwheel Why would Russia want all of Ukraine? It would be a liability. Putin has made his intentions very clear: Ukraine can go its own way, but it can't have Crimea and Donbass and it can't join NATO.
