This "Free World" thing is a bit Cold War, isn't it? There are degrees of freedom in different countries. There are far more people in prison in the UK for making online comments than there are Russia, for instance.

@Martinhodso007 No. But is illusory to suggest that Russia is completely under the thumb of cruel authority, while we inhabit the sunny uplands of freedom. It seems to me that Russia is actually becoming more free, while we are becoming less so.

@simonphelps3680 For the UK, the data on arrests for online comments, particularly under section 127 of the Communications Act 2003, can be found in reports from the Ministry of Justice and the House of Commons Library. There have been well over 3,000 arrests so far. In Russia, according to Human Rights Watch, there have been just over 400 arrests on similar charges.
