The war could end tomorrow - and indeed would not have begun - if certain geopolitical realities were recognised. China is aware of these realities, and for the sake of peace we can only hope it can convince the West of them.

@SpeccyHorace Mainly that Russia is sitting on a minimum of $12trillion of mineral assets in former Ukraine and is not going to give them up without a fight. Neither is it going to meekly accept continual encroachments on its sovereignty - which is far more firmly established than Ukraine's very recent and somewhat tenuous claim to such a status.

@Anashadk What the UN recognises doesn't matter a damn. What Russia and China and their increasing number of allies recognise is far, far more important. Former oil/gas customers will just have to do without and plunge deeper and deeper into recession as a consequence. Russia can sell all the gas and oil it wants elsewhere - and get paid in currencies other than the rapidly failing dollar too.
