This has been so depressingly predictable from the very earliest days of the present conflict. Russia doesn't want to conquer Ukraine and never did. It just wanted to destroy its army so Crimea and Donbass were safe from invasion. There is every likelihood that this will be achieved and that even further territories will be returned to Russian influence. And why not? What business is it of ours anyway?😮

@christopherhogg8364 There is nonetheless a substantial Russian population in Crimea and Donbass - up to 70% in some areas - which resents the way they have been treated by the nationalists in Kiev. Russia developed these regions using Russian investment and Russian labour. The rebellions in Donbass had widespread support and could have been contained if Ukraine had heeded the Minsk accords which effectively superceded Budapest. But the West wants to lay its hand on the vast mineral wealth of the disputed regions and is currently spending billions on getting them - wickedly spilling Ukrainian and Russian blood to do so..
