@arjan2777 These are figures from the 2001 census which is readily accessible online. People identifying as Russian accounted for 17.3% of the population as a whole, but the percentage is far higher in Crimea and Donbass. There are various other minorities, each generally representing less than1%. The original inhabitants, the Tatars, still have a higher representation in Crimea which was Turkish until annexed by Russia in the late 18th century.

@richardkey1678 According to the United Nations around 7,000 civilians had been killed by the date you mention. The attack on the railway station was almost certainly carried out by the Ukrainians in a clumsy bid to blame Russia, and to discourage civilians from leaving the area since civilians are regularly used by Ukraine to act as human shields, their presence supposedly preventing attack on military locations.

@richardkey1678 It is the official figure from the 2001 census, and you are the uninformed fool. Modern Ukraine was largely built by Russians, especially the industrial and mining areas of Donbass. People identifying themselves as ethnic Russians represented 17.3% in that census, but the concentration is much higher on Crimea and Eastern Ukraine.
