If only life was as simple as you are!

@DAVJULART Ukraine just did.

Your man Abbott is OK on many things, but he's wrong on this one. All Russia has done in Ukraine is respond to decades of US attempts to undermine it. The war in Ukraine is essentially a defensive action.

@925Emotional I tend to dismiss entirely the opinions of those who cannot judge the present situation without recourse to absurd analogies.

@californiadreamin8423 The US has spent billions on undermining pro-Russian governments in Ukraine, as well as in Georgia, Chechnya,, Belarus and elsewhere. USAID is just one of several organisations in this field In 2014 the democratically-elected President of Ukraine was overthrown in a coup organised and funded by the CIA. Hunter Biden wasn't on the payroll of a Ukrainian oil company for nothing. Russia can't be expected just to sit back and take this. It has to react.

@PLAYER2035 I don't think Russia is too worried about this. NATO is just a glorified protection racket, and if a couple of shopkeepers want to pay their dues, so what?

@ I think it's an accurate and understandable one, though.

@ There is plenty of evidence. US agencies have been attempting to undermine places like Ukraine, Chechnya and Georgia for decades. Modern Ukraine is largely a Russian creation and its very valuable mines and factories in the east are often owned by and run by Russians. Trying to get the Ukrainian government to nationalise them and then sell them off to Western interests is at the root of this needless war.

@PLAYER2035 That's only one thing. Ukraine is far more special to Russia than these other countries, because in its present form it was largely created by Russia. Really though, the cause of the war is money. There are trillions and trillions of dollars in coal, gas, oil and now rare earth minerals in Eastern Ukraine. The mines were developed by Russians using Russian labour and many of them and other industries are still owned by Russian companies. Attempts to nationalise them and sell them off and now to join the EU and prevent them benefitting Russia are what Russia is mainly trying to prevent.

@PLAYER2035 National security is largely about resources, isn't it? Russia is protecting its interests from US greed.
1
@ National security is surely largely about protecting national resources isn't it? The two are far from mutually exclusive.
