  4.  @J.R.Y.  I don't think we get much choice. Putin is far tougher than any Western leader. Being strong and brave isn't much use when you've got guided missiles landing on your head.

  7.  @geoffhaylock6848  I get sick and tired of uneducated people comparing the present situation with the situation in Germany in the 1930s. There are no parallels. It's just because that seems to be about the only history you get taught in school these days.

In this case Russia attempted for decades to redress the anomalies resulting from the creation of the new country of Ukraine. Peaceful solutions were available, but these were rejected - by the West. Faced with the build-up of Ukrainian forces, financed by the West with the clear intention of removing the mineral riches of Donbass from its historic Russian ownership, Russia had little choice but to take extreme measures to prevent it. This is not a fairy tale and I am not a parrot. The solution has always been available - regional autonomy for Donbass.

  12.  @geoffhaylock6848  You still don't get it! This is a warning to the West that Russia is capable and willing of taking out long distance targets. Putin is just waving his .50 cal under our nose and telling us to watch it.
