Which is exactly what Ukraine did after Minsk 2.

All the decades since 2014 you mean?

@chrisnamaste3572 What makes you think the sanctions are working?

Examples?

I rather thought China, India and Iran were getting good at making this stuff? And already Russia is buying what it needs from under the counter in Europe. There's no profit in fine words and where there's money to be made, ways will be found. I can easily see this war resulting in an economic decline for the West, rather than Russia.

@Graybeard_ I am quoting from a recent Reuter report which claims that Russia had set up a number of worldwide cover companies literally years ago in anticipation of sanctions, and computer chips and other technology worth many millions are coming into Russia from a number of countries. Other perhaps less objective sources make similar claims - and I don't think India and China can be getting all that oil on the cheap without some form of quid pro quo.

@Graybeard_ There seems to be a bit of a gap between theory and practice here. Russia is producing missiles faster than its shooting them off and is even selling them to Iran. Tanks are apparently rolling off the production lines every day. The West has got a bit too big for its boots. China and India can do anything Germany and American can, and getting paid in cheap crude will make them do it. Russia's economy might suffer a few minor hiccups, but that's it. America meanwhile is looking to renege on repayments of $multi-trillion and inflation in the UK is on a par with Russia's at the moment. This is no time for complacency.

The longer this goes on, the more Russia will demand. Right now it might well be satisfied with simply what Putin asked for back in December '21 - recognition of Crimea as Russian, regional autonomy for Donbass and a firm promise that Ukraine will not join NATO. Temperatures are due to drop next week, and if this continues Russia will almost certainly re-invade and almost certainly take the whole of Donbass as Ukraine's depleted forces have to head north to defend supply lines. Putin will have obtained by force what he attempted to gain by negotiation. His army may be ill-equipped and often badly led, but it will do the job in the end. The Ukrainians and the governments of Europe have been extremely foolish in allowing themselves to be used by the Americans in yet another hawkish adventure on foreign soil.

There is no evidence whatsoever that Russia has any such territorial ambitions. It merely protects its existing interests.
