Does Russia care about Kherson? Its forces are advancing steadily towards the Donbass border, which has always been the main military objective.

@Moscow_Will_Burn Try looking at a map

No it doesn't.

Yes. But don't worry too much Ukraine will continue as a separate although slightly smaller state.

@mylessalmon2569 Not really. They just want to hold some Ukrainian forces down there.

@englishtime5327 You have swallowed pure propaganda. I don't know the quote from Medvedev but I imagine it to be a twist on something rhetorical. The Western media and Western politicians constantly do this. Putin has said many times that the re-creation of the Soviet empire would be a great and wonderful thing - but that it is entirely impractical and not even desirable. When his words are reported in the West the second bit is left out. Just think about it. Part of the reason the SU collapsed was that it was over-extended. Why would the Russian Federation wish to repeat that mistake? How could it even be done? Just look at the trouble Putin is having in taking back those corners of Ukraine which he believes are Russia's by right. By what stretch of the imagination could Russia launch an attack on Europe - and why on earth would it want to? The fact is that the US economy depends on being in a state of constant armed readiness, and for that it needs a permanent enemy. Russia has been forced into that role.

@englishtime5327 Pure myth. America needs to keep Russia as a permanent enemy for its war-based economy to survive. Russia has no designs on Europe, whatever rhetoric is taken out of context by the Western media. The Soviet Union collapsed partially because it was over-extended. Why would the Russian Federation want to make the same mistake? And could it? Look at the trouble Putin is having taking back those parts of Ukraine he believes are Russia's by right. He has said many times that while the re-creation of the Soviet Empire might be a great and wonderful thing it is entirely impractical and not even desirable. When he gets reported in the West, the second bit is left out. I daresay the same thing happened to Medvedev.

@englishtime5327 Russia has no designs on Europe, despite all the scaremongering. The Soviet Union collapsed partially because it was over-extended. Why would the Russian Federation want to make the same mistake? And how could it? Look at the trouble Putin is having taking back those bits of Ukraine he believes are Russian by right. The trouble is he and Medvedev both say that re-creating the Russian empire would be a great and wonderful thing - but that it is entirely impractical and not even desirable in real terms. When they get reported in the Western media, however, the second bit is left out. I can't think why.

@englishtime5327 Russia has no designs on Europe. You have been fooled by a combination of Russian rhetoric and Western mis-reporting. The Russian Federation does not wish to repeat the Soviet Union's mistakes and simply does not have the ability - let alone the desire - to invade Europe. Look at the trouble they are having getting back those bits of Ukraine they believe are theirs by right.

@englishtime5327 Russia has no designs on Europe, whatever the Western media pretends.
1
@englishtime5327 As Nelson Mandela once said:" Russia is no threat to Europe .It is a myth designed to promulgate America's war-based economy."
1
@englishtime5327 It's not going to happen, but YouTube's new fascist algorithm won't let me tell you why.

@davidwright5094 What charming nonsense you do talk.
1
@ruthwhall3020 Nonsense. The rouble is strengthening as measures are taken to counteract sanctions etc. It's value has risen sharply in the past three months. It must also be remembered that its value against the value of the dollar is one that is cited, and the dollar is now in a very vulnerable position with a major crash expected before very long.
1
@JuliusFawcett So what? What criteria are used? Considering he immense pressure it has been put under the rouble has shown remarkable resilience. It is the dollar which is overstretched and which many economists believe is due for a major collapse, removing it from its position as the currency against which the value of other currencies are measured.
1
@JuliusFawcett Because it is being artificially supported by Government intervention. Much like the rouble, in fact.
1
@JuliusFawcett Not to same degree - but then the US is not under direct fiscal attack. Not yet anyway.
1
@JuliusFawcett There will be no post oil global economy for at least 200 years. May I remind you also that Russia partners both China and India as founder members of the BRICS groups of nations, dedicated to removing the dollar as the prime international currency.
