@gregorysurovoi3968 Ever heard of filter-down economics? Keeping hold of a resource that brings in the equivalent of a several billion dollars a year can only benefit the Russian people as a whole.

@billm9775 Perhaps we have a different definition of trickle down economics. In my view this is simply a glib catchphrase for something which has always existed - namely the idea that profit expresses itself in benefit to the community as a whole, as those with increased capital invest it in enterprises which provide employment and services. The degree to which they do - rather than spend profits on personal luxuries or use it for currency speculation etc - is of course significant . But there can be no doubt, surely, that if Russia continues to benefit from the mineral wealth of Donbass then at least some of that benefit will accrue to the Russian people as a whole. One has only to look at the way Mariupol is now being rebuilt to see the truth of this.

Russia lost men and equipment while edging towards Berlin. The fact is that Russia - entirely predictably - is well on its way to winning this war. The West can only add to its shame by further prolonging it.
