  1. Crimea is Russian. Russia took it from the Ottomans who took it from the Tatars. Ukraine only enters into the picture after 1954 when Crimea was stapled on to it for purely administrative reasons.

  3.  @emm_arr  Not really. To suggest there was a free and fair election in a country considered at the time to be one of the most corrupt in the world is optimistic- to say the least.

  4.  @Hochspitz  My point is that Crimea is largely occupied by Russians, was created in its modern form by Russia and has only a recent and tenuous relationship with Ukraine.
