They're not that desperate.

Russia is fighting to maintain its identity and integrity in the face of constant Western efforts to undermine it. This seems to me to be entirely reasonable, and from what I can gather it seems entirely reasonable to the majority of Russians also.

@davefave4351 If and when Russia wins in Ukraine and peace is declared I think we can be reasonably confident that these artificially-induced economic woes will be brought to an end. There is this bizarre psychological need, it seems, to denigrate Russia on every level. In fact it has done wonders after escaping the horrors of socialism and we should respect that, instead of attempting to belittle it.

@CabSav2010 The truth. The Russian Federation has emerged from the horrors of socialism but instead of allowing it to be free, the West (ie America) has attempted to colonise it.

@DecievedREALITY999 Russia is merely attempting to regain territory taken from it by a foolish treaty, and to protect the culture and well-being of the Russians living there. While corruption and a degree of repression remain in Russia - this is simply the way it has always been in that country, as indeed it is in a great many others, including , of course Ukraine. One can only hope that the inevitable alteration in the balance of world power which will occur should Russia be seen to be able to defy the wishes of Western imperialism will lead to a swift economic recovery.

@DecievedREALITY999 Russia is merely trying to regain territory which it sees as having been unfairly taken from it in the confusion following the collapse of the Soviet Union. To them what is happening in Ukraine is a liberation, not an invasion. If sanctions are not artificial, I don't know what is, and should Russia manage to demonstrate to the world at large that it is able to defy Western imperialism and American hegemony then the world at large will ensure that their effects will be minimised. One can also hope that a sensible and pragmatic US presidency will ensure that Russia is treated not as a pariah, but as an economic rival - or even potential partner. As for corruption and oppression, they do indeed continue to exist in Russia as they do in a very great many countries to one degree or another - including, of course, Ukraine.

@DecievedREALITY999 Russia views its actions in Ukraine as an effort to regain territory that it believes was lost during the collapse of the Soviet Union. From their perspective, this is seen as a liberation rather than an invasion. The topic of sanctions is contentious; some argue that their impact could be lessened if Russia effectively demonstrates its resilience against Western policies. Looking forward, a more pragmatic approach from global leaders, including the United States, could potentially reshape relations with Russia, treating it as an economic competitor or partner rather than a pariah. It's also important to acknowledge that corruption and governance challenges persist in many countries, including both Russia and Ukraine.

@DecievedREALITY999 Out of interest ,my reply has been rewritten by the bot Bing in order to comply with the restrictions imposed by the YouTube repressive algorithm bot. What a world.

@boogiewoogie9770 I meant, of course, territorial integrity. In Russia's view Western attempts to influence affairs in Ukraine, Georgia and other satellite nations and districts amounts to an assault on its identity as a nation.

@Ricardo-i3s7f I mean, of course, territorial integrity.
