These people all seem young and healthy. Unless suffering from an underlying condition in the unlikely event of contracting the virus they should endure two or three days of severe discomfort at the very most. In the meantime they are going to work and setting about the business of restoring the economy. An encouraging sight.

@t.n.3819 Which medical journal? Medical opinion is deeply divided. The Swedish response was based on sound expert medical advice and seems to be doing well. Our response was based on the work of computer modellers and made even dafter by the rabble-rousing press and hysterical politicians. It's a fuck-up. Look at the numbers. Even if the figures are accurate (and there is good reason to believe they have been grossly exaggerated) then the total number of deaths is such a small percentage of the population as to be statistically negligible. It's the equivalent of a bad couple of days on the Somme. The difference is that then the dead were all healthy young men with much to contribute to society. The vast majority of coronavirus deaths are among the elderly whose useful lives are over and who would have died soon anyway. The only other categories are people with existing medical conditions or those - such as health-care workers - who are subject to repeated infections to such a degree that their antibodies can't cope. The only way to come to terms with this thing is to let it run its course while ensuring that those who are most at risk are properly protected. In a short period of time the coronavirus will become like its close relative the common cold - a regular nuisance but nothing to panic about. You're right in that deaths are inevitable, but death is like that.

@ianstrange5674 Who said their lives mean nothing? They seem to mean little to the Government who instead of ensuring they were especially protected issued an insane blanket shutdown order.

@L_Martin The number is still tiny. Find out the population of the UK and work out the percentage of people who have died. As to the situation in hospitals, can you explain why the new facilities, such as the Nightingale Hospital, are closing due to lack of patients? There is no surgical procedure to treat covid-19 as far as I am aware and so pressure on theatre time must be due to cancer patients and those with other illnesses whose condition has been made suddenly worse by contracting the illness. Sweden and South Korea are getting this right. We are not. The knee-jerk reaction leading to lock-down can only do more harm than good in the long run. I'm in my seventies and not much good with a mop and bucket; even so I mould be reluctant to work on a covid ward since under the present system I would be subject to the danger of multiple re-infection which, apart from taking advantage of existing frailties, is seemingly the only way the virus can overcome our antibody responses sufficiently to kill us.

@t.n.3819 For a start I wouldn't believe the BBC if it told me what day of the week it was. But leaving the whole question of how the figures have been manipulated to one side, your analogy is a false one. If you have unprotected sex you might get HIV if you are unlucky, if you share needles you almost certainly will. If you get on a crowded bus the chances that you will get covid-19 are not that high and the chances that you will get it badly enough to kill you are practically nil - unless you are elderly or have a pre-existing condition. The thousands of deaths that could have been prevented are not those caused by travelling on a crowded bus. They are those caused by the Government failing to isolate vulnerable people - the frail and the elderly - and by not realising that prolonged and repeated exposure - such as that experienced by health care workers - may overcome the immune systems of even the most healthy. By the way, if you spend your life listening to "experts" trotted out by the Government and the lamestream media you are going to get seriously fucked.
