  1. We get the journalism we deserve. The media survives by reflecting human instincts - not by attempting to shape them, as seems to be suggested here. The instinct for war cannot be overcome by logic nor shaped by reason. It is bred in the bone. Mankind is ruled by fear, not love.

  5.  @peterwright5311  Wriggle as much as you like, the Trump plan if enacted would have prevented much, if not all, of the dire, immediate consequences of the Biden debacle. There were 80,000 named civilian helpers guaranteed safe withdrawal. The token force was there simply to administer this; from both Kabul AND Bagram. Biden, by ignoring the May deadline, blew this out of the water. As far as equipment is concerned there is no way of saying at this stage whether it would have been left behind or destroyed. An intelligent analysis of the Afghan army's reliability in the first few months of this year would clearly have shown the latter to have been very much preferable. Trump is an intelligent and cunning negotiator, capable of making rational decisions. Biden is a senile buffoon.
