He's setting about it in a funny way by killing off mainly old people who are beyond reproductive age and were due to die soon anyway. Of course there all these vaccines..... What a surprise it would be should it turn out that they make a certain proportion of the population sterile!

@bravoalley228 The same applies but more so. The vast majority of those who have died have been way beyond an age to reproduce.

@sadephillips9645 I haven't the faintest idea - and nor I suspect, does anyone else. A small proportion of victims suffer long term and permanent organ damage but whether reproductive organs are affected I just don't know.

Absolutely. They are missing a political opportunity too.

If he was going for herd immunity he certainly set about it the wrong way.
1
@commonsense9176 It hasn't happened though. All his actions have actually held up herd immunity - which would probably be here by now if nothing had been done.
1
@commonsense9176 Are you suggesting that people are not becoming eligible day by day to replace those who have died?
1
The flaw in your comparison is that unlike the majority of those who have died with covid, those soldiers and blitz victims would have expected many years of useful life had it not been for the war. In terms of years of meaningful life lost covid is still way behind several influenzas. This is not to say of course that this ramshackle excuse for a government has not made a disgraceful mess of dealing with the epidemic.

@clivethomas6864 And I am sure that a great many weren't expecting to. People have to die sometime and unless you are particularly miserable and ill, you will want that day to be as far off as possible - but having said that most of the people who have died would have died soon anyway -covid or not and they will have known it.. Those few weeks or months extra have been bought at a tremendous cost to the general community both at home and abroad. Babies in Third World countries are dying of malnutrition as the economic consequences of lockdowns in the West reach them. Is an old person's life worth less than a younger person's? Well yes. They have made their contribution. Most people who have died in this country have been over 90 and 75% over the age of 75. I'm getting on a bit myself but I wouldn't want any kids in Africa to have to starve to death just for a few more weeks in a wheelchair.

They seem to me to be doing everything they can to AVOID herd immunity. If they had done next to nothing at all herd immunity would probably have been achieved by now.
1
And went to the trenches. What would Boris do I wonder?
1
So right about masks. I've been through a lot of evidence from both sides and I'm convinced the disadvantages outweigh the advantages to a considerable degree. They are a psychological prop, that's all.

Instead of compensating people for the effects of on and off lockdowns, money should have been spent on acquiring and training ICU nurses. Several peer-reviewed studies have shown that lockdowns do little if anything to reduce death rates - but they do buy time to allow you to build up sufficient resources to care for borderline cases and put them back on the road to health. It wouldn't matter if these trained nurses spent nine months of the year arranging flowers and making Tic Toc videos, they would be a cheaper and more efficacious option than lockdowns.

@saoirsehaslonglegs2313 Nothing against nurses There just aren't enough of them trained to ICU standards, that's all.
1
@saoirsehaslonglegs2313 None taken, I assure you.
