@BambiTrout Your analogy is absurd. Israel has as much right to the land it occupies as do the so-called Palestinians, most of whom are the descendants of Arabs from neighbouring countries who flocked into the area to take advantage of the prosperity engendered by Zionism. The Jews consistently attempted to be fair to these people in the early days, but were met with general hostility created by the religious intolerance of Islam. Their attitude has understandably hardened over the years and they have met fire with fire in order to survive. It is a tragedy that matters should have reached this point, but it is undoubtedly the intransigence of Islamic fundamentalism which is the prime cause - not a cruel and savage colonialism on the part of Israel.

The modern Jewish presence in Palestine goes back to the 19th century, when large tracts of land were actually purchased from their Ottoman owners by Zionists. At this time the area was vastly underpopulated and there were soon as many Jews as there were Arabs. The Zionists created farms out of deserts and Arabs from Syria and Jordan flooded in to take advantage of this prosperity. Arab warlords also conquered large tracts. These are the ancestors of the poor, oppressed Palestinians your heart bleeds for.
