With the death to infection rate only a fraction of that in previous waves, herd immunity might actually be achieved within a matter of weeks. Thousands of people a day are becoming immune, and closing down the pathways of infection. I hold no brief for this government but they may actually have hit upon a solution - if only by accident.

Why this constant obsession with infections when it is the rate of infections to death and serious outcomes which is important?

@Yevi N. You're no fun, are you? Covid is an airborne respiratory pathogen and has much in common with influenzas and colds. It is indeed probable that the components of the common cold were as severe as SARS-Cov 2 when they first arrived but then adapted and evolved into their present less virulent forms. With the help of vaccines Covid 19 is being kicked along the same route.

@Yevi N. WE cannot comprehend it fully, but we can take an educated guess as to its place on the list of the horrors which afflict us. Pretty far down, really.
