  4. Adam Powell. I too remember the nuclear threat but was of the opinion that nuclear weapons were the only thing that prevented a vicious and bloody conventional war post-1945. It is a view I still hold. I also hold the view that the threat apparently posed by AGW is vastly exaggerated. Children are idiots as well as horrible. Do you really believe they have come to this state of mind independently? Of course they haven't. They are being wickedly manipulated by their bonkers lefty schoolteachers.

  6. Adam Powell I find it hard to see how global warming is a factor in the Australian bush fires. A fire will catch whether the temperature is 30c or 40c. By far the largest factor is the absurdity of green policies which have legislated against traditional methods of bushfire management. In the extensive national forests these have been virtually abandoned. Undergrowth has built up season after season and firebreaks and access routes for emergency vehicles have become overgrown Backburning and other techniques for prevention are now subject to so much red tape that farmers no longer bother with them. If the do-gooders had minded their own business then this tragedy would not have happened. I know little about the mosquito situation in Kenya but unless it is a result of poor management I imagine it is indeed caused by global warming - solar forced global warming mainly. We are now emerging from a cold period which ended in about 1850 and it will certainly get hotter over the next few decades, with or without increases in atmospheric carbon.

  7. Adam Powell You can't change human nature. Decent people outnumber psychopaths, but the devious psychopath will always come out on top. Everybody has to be a pacifist before pacifism works and that just ain't gonna happen. The motivation and ability to create nuclear weapons will always exist. Amorality and pragmatism beat idealism most days of the week I'm afraid.

  12. Lenny Harry The average individual contribution to CO2 emissions is 58.6 tonnes a year. A transatlantic flight will add 1.6 tonnes A vegan diet will reduce your carbon footprint by .8 of a tonne. Every little helps I suppose.

  13. lenny harry The Financial Times says so. Not a tablet of stone I agree, but I would imagine the figure is based on some sort of evidence. If you want to be a vegan then be a vegan. I don't see why you should want to add to your feelngs of virtue by imagining you are helping cool the Earth down in any way.
