STOP PRESS: The Office of National Statistics has just released provisional death figures from all causes for July. There were 38,179 deaths registered That is 1,435 LESS than in July 2019. Deaths where Covid 19 was an UNDERLYING cause amounted to 2.6% of the total.

Fortunately the proof of the pudding will be in the eating. Have large-scale gatherings resulted in increases in deaths and hospitalisations No. Will this one? No. It was a joy to see the 99% throwing off their shackles. While dour control-freak Lefties mourn the loss of this opportunity to restrict liberty, those of us who treasure freedom can get on with it. The disease has done its worst. Just look at the graphs. Just examine the statistics. Should the lives of healthy young people be ruined just to give the frail and elderly a few more months or weeks of life? No. Old farts like Ashton are the ones who are being selfish. If you are afraid of Covid lock yourself up somewhere. Take some hydroxychloroquine if you can get it. And shut up. Teacher, leave those kids alone.

@christophergray7330 You don't think he could possibly be fibbing do you? Perhaps he lives in a care home and comes from a morbidly obese family of Nigerian taxi drivers. I crave enlightenment, I really do.

@jamesallen4050 The pursuit of truth? He was well enough to make the claim, he should be well enough to elaborate upon it.

@saberint I believe every word - and I speak as someone in his seventies. You've just got to stop being so sentimental. It destroys the power of reason.
2
@DrWrapperband Tell you what, why don't we all kill ourselves now just to be on the safe side.? You go first.
2
I am truly shocked. Was there a common factor? Personal losses on this scale are unusual except in groups of the elderly, or families with a genetic disorder.

@AWhileHanlin Ashton's argument? Precisely.

Praxis Alba I'd rather people have fun, but work is often a grim necessity. I simply don't understand why you paranoid control-freak Lefties suddenly won't believe my age. What part of your group psychosis is it that will not process this entirely mundane piece of information? I have obviously escaped the brainwashing that has you in its grip, and that's because I left school long before it was insidiously introduced. I know my chances of de-programming any of you are pretty slim, but it amuses me to try.
1
Praxis Alba What a nasty piece of work you are. You simply cannot seem to believe that I am simply someone who disagrees with you. Instead I must be some "troll" who must be criminalised for daring to challenge your conditioning. I wonder which countries you are referring to, by the way? All countries have been affected differently by this disease, and have responded in different ways too. The number of factors involved makes it impossible to extrapolate any definite conclusions as to which has done best. I see no reason whatsoever why the UK should not immediately lift all restrictions and return to normality as quickly as possible.

Pomposity too.

@amayastrata4629 Yes. I was selecting the most up-to-date figures available. You have made my point exactly. They clearly show that not only have Covid 19 deaths reduced dramatically (which we already know) but would seem to imply the possibility that it is running out of victims. Ie. all those extra deaths in the figures you provide were due to happen in July , August and September but they can't because they have happened already.

@Arfur Fuxxakes Hi Arfur! It's five actually and in all cases with mild, slightly different forms. Not to say it might not be a problem - but it's not likely to be a big one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fGUFfhIkA9E&t=668s

@Arfur Fuxxakes He doesn't actually agree with me in many respects. He is just a useful and objective guide to the official information which has been released and which can be found in the description below the video. Go to the sources if you doubt his analytical competence.

@Arfur Fuxxakes Peer reviewed reports on what? Official US and UK government statistics?
1
@Arfur Fuxxakes Hi again Arfur! Why don't you ask that question in a year or so, after the sums have all been done?
1
@Arfur Fuxxakes How so? The statistics are what they are. Overwhelming evidence says the disease has a very low death rate, and it is predominantly the elderly (usually the very elderly) and those with pre-existing life-threatening conditions who die or become extremely ill. The facts are what they are. The only question is what to do about them. Do we continue living in fear, growing poorer and hungrier by the day on the off chance of serious re-infection or a new "wave" - or do we take our courage in our hands and move forward in the intelligent expectation that for most of us this might mean, at the worst, a headache and a bit of a cough?
1
@stevendurrant1724 No. Those facts were always there in the CDC's own records. They have simply been highlighted, that's all.
1
@jamesallen4050 It's just that it seems so unlikely. I wish we could have more details, that's all.

@bobjohnbowles Fortune favours the brave. And everyone winds up dead, or haven't you noticed?

You need help.
