MPs are expected to lie occasionally. It is a political necessity. Johnson though has abused the privilege and brought the House into disrepute. Dawn Butler's brave action could be a very significant nail in his coffin. And it was damned stylish too.

The Tories are in full retreat. They leave behind a poisoned chalice.
70
The odd thing about Johnson is that he is an enormous disappointment to most Conservative voters - but God's gift to Labour.
27
Trouble is, anyone who replaces her will know they are not going to last long either. The way things are going internationally it will require a miracle worker to even appear to get us out of the shit. I doubt many ambitious Tories want to pick up the poison chalice. We are due for a Labour government and the next General Election will almost certainly provide one. Best of luck Keir!

Whale have to see.
24
True. He has played a significant role in two of the 21st centuries greatest scandals - Ukraine and the pandemic response.
23
That's because Phil is his own man, thinking for himself, instead of merely being paid to follow the instructions of those who pay his wages.
21
The difference of of course was that you could unstrap your seatbelt and get out of the car.
17
And one with question marks over their general cognitive abilities.
15
Splitter!
14
I think you have to face the fact that you have not elected a Labour government.
14
The huge burden placed on the NHS by the consequences of the mishandling of the pandemic are only just beginning. It will simply not be up to the task, whatever the government does or does not do.
13
And about how drug companies twist information to increase their profits - and the utter gullibility of those who fall for it.
13
The law is that the corrections must be in the same position and the same prominence as the original article. But it takes a lengthy court procedure to prove the original article was untrue.
13
Take your brain out of the washing machine.
13
Please, please, please get him back as leader before the election. As they fail so will he and it might well end his career.
13
It's worth noting that the alleged instigator of the "Pork Pie Plot" represents the ultra safe Conservative East Midlands seat of Rutland and Melton. Her predecessor, Alan Duncan, who more or less ran the Foreign Office for years, quit because having experienced Bozo as Foreign Secretary, he knew that his premiership would swiftly run into major fuckups after a period of agonising incompetence. She and Duncan remain in touch. Those MPs whom you might regard as Johnson's supporters (including Rees-Mogg) are not generally his supporters at all. They are just making the noises expected of them until such time as, with great regret, they will be forced to withdraw their allegiance "in the interests of party unity."
13
About right, really.
13
Surely it's not where they were born, but where their heads are which is the problem.
12
Don't forget the racism angle. Many of those "lunatics" out in the sticks do indeed resent the very high melanin count in the current Tory hierarchy.
12
@Taladar2003 They're quite sensible. Without this rule the level of Parliamentary debate could descend into pointless chaos and become no more than an exchange of insults. Johnson though has abused convention and Dawn Butler has very cleverly called him out.
12
There is both method and humour in his madness though. It's just that you have to be a special kind of person to see this.
12
There´s more chance of her marching down the Mall carrying a BLM placard.
11
He's probably already forgotten all about it.
10
As decent and honest as ever. Such a pity some of the commentators on your channel can't seem to grasp the message.
10
But he only owns the Sun, the Times and TalkRadio.
9
Early being the key word. All that happens now is that new variants more fitted to exploit lockdown conditions come into prominence. Which is exactly what has happened.
9
I can't see how Labour will be saved by a list of minor do-gooderies, some of which might well not work - and others not even be noticed.
9
Ever heard of "perfidious Albion"? That goes back more than 200 years.
9
Such sweet optimism does my old heart good.
9
He tried hard enough, but was outbid by America.
9
What free world?
9
My right arm is twitching. Time to polish my jackboots.

Anything which might halt the political career of this dangerous egomaniac is to be welcomed. That it might also show up the even more dangerous folly of the covid restrictions he and his crew so clearly breached would be an added bonus.
8
That's what the police call it.
8
@cole0889 I doubt Islamic extremists are much influenced by what they read in the Guardian.
8
@31Blaize Who took part in these discussions? As far as I can recall discussions following the failure of the Minsk accords resulted in a treaty ready to be signed in Istanbul, but which was not signed because Western agents, notably our very own Boris Johnson, persuaded Zelensky to go to war instead. And Putin did not get try to take Kiev. The whole exercise was designed to decimate the Ukrainian army on its own territory - which it did.
8
... but what about the plot twist?
8
It doesn't.
8
Inevitable. But not ALL Tories are thieves and liars. The decent ones are hoping for a return to sanity. Alas, I fear they may well be disappointed.
8
The Tories of North Shropshire have done their duty and stuck the knife firmly into their inglorious leader. But they are still Tories.
8
I know. Lets all hold candles and sing happy clappy songs while the police ignore our children being raped and murdered.
8
It's not "if" - it's "when" and "who?"
8
@danellis-jones1591 Murdoch's media holdings are insignificant. Few people realise that most media companies in the world are ultimately owned by just two investment companies, Vanguard and BlackRock. Murdoch is yesterday's villain.
7
Tommy Robinson has consistently urged his supporters against violence.
7
And of course not forgetting the substantial financial holdings of the Blessed Saint Zelensky, as revealed in the Pandora Papers.
7
Why don't you cover the debate on excess deaths which happened in Parliament on Friday? Sunak's contribution (if any) to the covid death toll is as nothing compared with the continuing death toll resulting from...well, who knows? More people are dying now than at the height of the pandemic, and many of them are fit, young people, not just the elderly or obese. There is a deafening media silence over this astonishing phenomenon. You can't help wondering why.
7
I'm not quite sure what "Boris and his cronies" have to do with Islamic extremism.
7
@DJWESG1 This must be one of the most ridiculous theories I've ever heard. Almost 1400 years of religious expansionism and it's all down to the Tories? What planet are you from?
7
That would be because he's calling for something we want.
