@gilbertmoyes2918 They are investing in companies like BlackRock and Vanguard which own most of the drug companies and most of the world's media and which are milking the pandemic for all it's worth.

The pessimism about Omicron is utterly baffling. One cannot be 100% certain but it looks exactly like the variant many people have been expecting -the one which will end the pandemic. Fortunately in six weeks or less this will not be open to argument. Lockdowns etc did next to nothing against previous strains so will do even less against a strain which spreads ten times as fast. We are 3 or 4 weeks behind S Africa where hospitalisation rates are 91% less than with previous strains and where the clear message from the health authorities is: "Don't panic and carry on." Once again we have the paradox whereby those of a left-leaning frame of mind are falling over themselves to support strategies which are clearly moulded to suit the interests of profiteering drug companies and their political lackeys.

@mickreaddin4979 Untrue. More than 70% of those dying in the UK are fully vaccinated. (It's because they're mostly old and so far gone vaccines do nothing to help.)

The pandemic has been deliberately structured to maximise Big Pharma profits. And by supporting ludicrous mitigation policies and mass, repetitive vaccination we are doing just that

@Jay...777 It's a weird world when comedians make more sense than many $cientists.

@jamonit7169 If it isn't the blackout it's seatbelts. I wish they'd come up with something original.

You have a strange name for someone who appears to be mad.

@MrSensible2 At least you have a sense of humour. It compensates for a total lack of any common sense, I suppose.

@MrSensible2 Or you too for that matter!

The ne variant (if there is one) can just as easily develop here and, according to Smith's Law of Declining Virulence, should be less lethal than its predecessors.
1
Most Tories realise this too. We will perhaps have a ludicrous situation where the Tories are trying to get rid of him while Labour praise him to the skies!
1
What sort of infections/hospitalisations ratio is needed to keep the latter manageable?
1
@gilbertmoyes2918 The sad thing is that by supporting hysterical over-reaction to the pandemic people like Phil are just encouraging Big Pharma profits - which involves extending the pandemic for as long as possible.

Britain has actually only the 14th highest covid death rate in Europe -though the Netherlands is certainly lower. Britain has nothing LIKE the highest death rate in the world. Where do you get this crap from?
1
Take the over 75s out of the equation and he's not far wrong.

Are you assuming that the pandemic will continue for another year and that Johnson will remain in power throughout that time?

@JohnSmall314 This is a curious combination of pessimism, false logic and absurd analogies. Shutting out the virus from the word "go" will have an effect. But once it has taken a hold there is no stopping it. Lockdowns etc merely slow down the process. Once they are relaxed the disease just catches up. In the meantime variants are developing which can circumvent the mitigation measures. Your notion that Omicron developed in rural S Africa is interesting, but one wonders why it has become so prevalent in the most densely populated cities without surrendering its close resemblance to the common cold. Future variants may well be in the offing, but given the wide spectrum of immunity likely to be created by Omicron it is doubtful that they will be any more harmful. The trend in viruses is inevitably towards increased transmissibility and fewer fatalities, as expressed in the long-established Smith's Law of Declining Virulence.

@transient_ Wave dollars under noses and left or right doesn't enter into it.
