The Labour Party (which I very much supported many years ago) has completely abandoned the ordinary British working class and is now simply a vehicle for increasingly absurd and dangerous ideologies. The vast mass of people are now disenfranchised but there is hope that a coalition of common sense approaches, untrammelled by ideology, and hopefully able to avoid the abuses of power you refer to, will evolve before it is too late.

@simonoleary9264 I am more optimistic (I have to be to avoid utter despair!) There is hope that a new coalition of common sense and decency will arise which can revert to abandoned standards of governance and cast out dangerous ideologies. Labour party members must realise that their party no longer represents ordinary people, but is a vehicle for elitist globalists. Tories must realise that their party is equally tainted and defectors from both will hopefully find a home under a new banner. Reform is paving the way for this revolution.

@weswheel4834 Which had merits. Apart from the deterrent effects, a close financial relationship with a developing country like Rwanda would be very helpful in offsetting carbon emission targets.

@californiadreamin8423 I think Reform has a very useful role to play in helping coalesce the growing dissatisfactions of the British people with their political class. A vote for Reform is a genuine protest vote. It is a revolutionary act.

@simonoleary9264 As a great believer in authoritarian populism I have to agree with some of what you say. Coalitions are not good and seldom last, and "common sense" is perhaps too vague a term to hold much traction. All the same, we need a revolution and must have one. All we can hope is that it will be less traumatic than it could be.

As for Brexit, it was a necessity and its impact would have been far less if doctrinaire bureaucrats had not impeded it at every turn, or the EU itself accepted it. Reform's policies are neither impractical nor particularly ideological. They do, however, pave the way for the survival of this country in any recognisable form.

@nigelsynnott7344 There are no immediate short term benefits from Brexit, as currently applied, that I can readily see. This does not mean, however, that in principle, separation from a European federation is not a good, if not essential, long-term strategy for the long-term benefit of this country. The EU is an artificial construct and will inevitably collapse. Before it does so it will create enormous geopolitical damage, as already evidenced by its role in promoting the war in Ukraine. We need MORE Brexit, not less. We should cut all but the most basic ties of mutual economic benefit, including leaving the ECCR and other pan-European bodies, and hopefully NATO too if accommodations can be reached with the US and Russia.

@nigelsynnott7344 I think you possibly underestimate the power of suggestion though. The rumour that you might end up being shipped off the the middle of Africa might be enough to deter many from making the trip - even though, as you rightly say, an intelligent assessment of the odds makes it very unlikely. I doubt though this was the main impetus for the deal. There's money involved somewhere and I tend to suspect it has something to do with manipulation of the cap and trade market, in which vast fortunes can be made dealing in carbon emission bonds - a commodity which, as a developing country, Rwanda probably has in plenty.
