  6.  ger du  Perhaps illiberal was not quite the right word? All states set limits on the behaviour of dissidents and potential troublemakers. Russia has always been a more unashamed kleptocracy than most and the unfortunate Navalny has been given a nasty lesson. If he had been a Canadian truck driver he might have found his bank account frozen and his livelihood destroyed.

  7. As with the removal of covid restrictions Johnson is doing the right thing for the wrong reasons. The Ukraine crisis is entirely of America's making and we can be thankful that large financial contributions from Russian oligarchs are preventing the UK getting even further up the yanks' arse than would otherwise be the case.
