@petergaskinuk-1785 Utterly ridiculous. The war began in 2014 when the EU indicated that a referendum was needed in Ukraine. That was the economic trigger. Do you really think that an astute political animal like Putin would imagine the EU to be destabilised by Brexit, or even if it was it would make any difference to his military response?

The unseemly political ambitions of the EU are the main reason why many people wanted Britain to leave. And it was those same unseemly political ambitions which triggered this dreadful war.

@willtricks9432 All very noble. But when it involves treading on the toes of Russia, it becomes political. As you clearly illustrate, Russia responds very fiercely to provocation. And threatening Russia's territorial and economic interests was clearly provocative, as well as being politically inept.

@rocketscience4516 Putin has no imperialistic or expansionist ambitions. All he wants and has ever wanted in for his borders to be secure and Russia's economic interests to be protected. It was NATO and the EU's threats to Russia's stability which caused this war, and nothing else. This war is a watershed. There is every likelihood that it will result in the end of Western dominance of world affairs. If anyone has miscalculated it is America and its lackeys in Europe.

@rocketscience4516 Why has he waited more than twenty years to stage this rebirth of a shattered dream? Putin was there when the USSR crashed and he knows why it crashed. He knows that the Russian Empire cannot be recreated any more than the British Empire can. I suggest you take time to read Putin's essay on Russian/Ukrainian relations which he published in the summer of 2021. It makes it clear how he views the relationship between Russia and its long-term province. It also makes it quite clear that while, however regretfully, he accepts the right of Western Ukraine to turn its face to the West he will not tolerate NATO moving in and nor will he allow Crimea and Donbass to be included in the package. His reasons are cogent and his response is made clear. The peace proposals he outlined in December of that year further emphasise the intractability of his position. They should have been heeded.

@angelikaskoroszyn8495 That is very interesting. Waiting though would have been a bit of a gamble. It was pretty clear that many of Ukraine's oligarchs were looking Westwards and forming financial alliances with American and European politicians and other agents. The idea that it was American operatives who added fuel to the fire by firing in the crowds in the Maidan riots is also viable, I think. The separatist movement in Donbass was already forming and as for Crimea it has always been Russian and only stuck on to Ukraine by administrative accident. Putin simply took advantage of the chaotic situation to walk in and take it back. Nonetheless, without knowing fully how advanced Kolomoisky and his fellow-travellers were down the road to transferring Ukrainian resources from Russia to America, it is impossible to say what would have happened in a subsequent election. Zelensky may well have already been being groomed for the part for one thing.

@rocketscience4516 None of this crude and childlike analysis indicates any desire or ambition by Putin to recreate the Russian empire though, does it? This is just regurgitated Western propaganda designed to mask America's imperialistic ambitions by pretending that Putin has them. As for NATO and the EU becoming politically strengthened, the reverse is surely true. The cracks are starting to appear in both these organisations. Good.

@willtricks9432 All Russia wants are the Russian bits of Ukraine - which has been a Russian province for hundreds of years and never a real country at all. As for military strategies - it has to be admitted that Russia has always had its own way of doing things in this area! Right now though it has half a million troops lined up to attack and is wheeling in even bigger missiles ready to pound Ukraine to dust before they move in. Which is a terrible tragedy, as all this could have been avoided with a little bit of calm and common sense.

@jean-pascalesparceil9008 You are living in a world of paranoid illusion. Get help.

@jean-pascalesparceil9008 You are as crazy as a box of frogs. I am English born and bred and if my views appear to mirror some aspects of Russia's assessment of the current grievous situation, it is simply that I can see Russia's point view. Even more important is the fact that of this point of view had been properly considered this stupid war need never have started. Even more tragic is that at the end of the day Russia might well get what it wanted in the first place - and tens of thousands of people will have died to no purpose.

@rocketscience4516 You've gone into inane babbling mode again, Rocket. Doesn't take long.

@rocketscience4516 Whatever similarities my views have with "Kremlin propaganda" are purely coincidental. I do think the West ought to back off though. I sense we are being bullied and conned into creating a monopolar, globalist world run by vastly wealthy Western elites, and this does not go down well with me. I was right about the pandemic being manipulated for financial gain and the dire consequences of the hysterical over-reaction to it. This is not say I am right about Brexit, US elections or this war, but I think I probably am.

@rocketscience4516 This new bot has more in common with you. It seems to have been programmed with the same bollocks as you have!

@rocketscience4516 Whatever that deeper reason may be, if any, I have no idea. Does the Kremlin have any particular views on facemasks, lockdowns, or MRNA? What is its stance on AGW? Immigration to the UK? Once again I have no idea. My heresies are, I assure you, entirely self-generated and only voiced when confirmation is indicated by reason and research. Your opinions seem to be derived entirely from the brainwashed, woke school of thought. You just support each new thing, as long as it makes you feel all warm and fluffy inside. Question more.
1
@rocketscience4516 I think you miss the point that these failings exist without any help from Russia. It is perfectly possible that Russia may wish to capitalise on them, but that does not mean they are not real. American elections are rigged in order to ensure that the country continues to be run by the deep state. Nothing to do with Russia. The pandemic measures were introduced in order to maximise the obscene profits of the pharmaceutical industry. Nothing to do with Russia. Russia doesn't have to do much to destabilise the West. We are making a good job of it on our own.

@rocketscience4516 Giving up again, huh?

@rocketscience4516 Your didactic impulses are, alas, misguided. Your unfortunate nephew has little hope of understanding particle physics in much the same way as his uncle seems incapable of grasping harsh political realities.
