They're always behind with the Nus.

No guesses why they left out Xi. The Chinese government would have been less than pleased. I think the others left out mean obscene or uncomfortable things in other languages. An "epsilon" is a slang Turkish term for sexual act too horrible to mention I believe.

No. It just means that someone with HIV has an immune system that's shot to hell.

We've now got 2 in the UK - one in Chelmsford and 1 in Nottingham.

According to senior S African medical sources it's "a storm in a teacup" with only very mild symptoms and no apparent fatalities. Mind you, there are not so many old people in Africa so it could be a different story here.

@rocketsurgeon2135 Good idea. But I do think some of the more gloomy souls who haunt this channel might suffer withdrawal symptoms. I suppose global warming is always there as a back-up though.

No nus is good nus, I suppose.

You might take some comfort from the fact that the cases in S Africa are so mild the patients are not even hospitalised. The same with our two. The problems are going to come when and if this variant hits the old folk.

@Jay...777 The whole thing is down to Big Pharma's greed. These people would boil their grandmothers down for cough medicine if they saw a profit in it. Their bloody vaccines do little more than existing prophylactics and palliatives they have vilified through faked data, and whatever data there is on the dangers and drawbacks of the vaccines is dismissed as "conspiracy theories." When the final butchers' bill is added up they will have much to answer for.

@olmostgudinaf8100 Well I'm only going by what the senior officials say and they have no reason to lie that I can think of. In fact the pandemic has very much been exaggerated out of all proportion. The hysterical over-reaction has led to measures being taken which will do far more long-term damage and cause more deaths than the disease itself. As for the new variant, so far none of the patients are even hospitalised , as far as one can gather. We can but hope that Smith's Law of Declining Virulence is coming into play and omnicron might actually turn out to be a good thing. But then I'm a right wing optimist, not a snivelling leftie coward.

@olmostgudinaf8100 No wonder you're such a lot of miseries with all that responsibility and all those good intentions to carry around with you. The road to hell is paved with good intentions and more often than not the consequences of actions are vastly different to those originally assumed. The handling of the pandemic is a case in point.

Nu is old nus. (French for naked. The frogs didn't like it.)

A new and worrying variant. I knew you would be pleased. But what will the paranoia junkies do if this turns out to be the one we've been waiting for - the variant that spreads ultra fast but has very mild effects, thus beating a path to herd immunity? What will you do then?

Xi would have very much upset the Chinese - imagine a covid variant named after their glorious leader! And epsilon means something utterly obscene in Turkish slang I believe.

No nus is good nus.

Yet with only 6% of the population vaccinated, African countries outside the more developed southern tip have the lowest covid and hospitalisation rates in the world - especially those where malaria is endemic for some reason. Vaccines may well be superfluous to requirements.

Are you sure?
