Joe Biden has destroyed America. It will never recover from this blow to its prestige. His criminal ineptitude is inexcusable, and the world knows it. He ignored plans for a structured withdrawal under air cover, apparently simply because the Trump administration had conceived it. He was apparently unaware that the Afghan army was desperately short of ammunition or that the Taliban considered the deal was off because the May deadline had passed. And he virtually removed the air cover which would have kept the Taliban pinned down. To suggest that this is "reasoning" is mind-boggling. The Taliban are selling the Americans aviation fuel so they can ship their people out and selling the attack helicopters they left behind to the Russians. The Chinese are on the border waiting to come in and mine all the lithium. Military strategy and objectives? Are you kidding?

@indricotherium4802 The insane pursuit of crackpot ideologies such as those typified by the green movement and the likes of BLM and the alphabet people, while abandoning traditional values, are certainly contributing heavily to the nation's decline.

@indricotherium4802 In my parallel universe we know that the election was stolen using the very latest techniques combined with time-honoured trickeries. Antifa's involvement in the Capitol protest was in no way significant, if it existed at all. Any unpleasantness was due to some of our good ole boys getting a bit out of hand, on account of their hearts being in the right place, but their brains a bit south of normal.

@indricotherium4802 We no longer watch Fox News but we know that masks are more or less useless in the prevention of the spread of infection, but that an intelligently conducted vaccination programme will smooth the path to herd immunity, which is the only viable way of dealing with the covid pandemic.

@indricotherium4802 Only fully fitted respirator style masks are of any real use. Cloth masks and those little blue things you hang off your ears are no use at all. Try breathing through one of them onto a mirror and watch the condensation. That's aerosol. On a frosty mornings you can see plumes of the stuff pouring out of the sides and top and falling on the faces of people walking behind. They do protect against much larger pathogens which may fall from a surgeon's mouth and nose, but having said that a survey published in the Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine in 2015 revealed that 4% of surgeons actually don't wear masks during operations, and of those that did 20% said they only did so because they thought it was expected of them. They are just security blankets, or pacifiers to suck on to make us feel better and safe.

@indricotherium4802 I've thought it through and have decided that the nil to minimal protection provided by a mask isn't worth the indignity and inconvenience of doing so. Especially now that vaccines are available to reduce symptoms the more people who get covid and recover the better anyway. This was always the case of course, but now it can be done with such minimal impact there is absolutely no excuse to continue crippling economies, driving people insane and killing them with other diseases just to hold back an inevitable tide. The measures taken against covid on your planet have done immeasurably more harm than the disease itself, and will continue to do so for many years to come. The Magic Mask phenomenon is just a minor illustration of general stupidity.

@indricotherium4802 On my planet epidemiologists believe that since covid 19 is what they call a heterogonous rather than a homogenous infection, treating it as though everyone has the same chance of catching it, and the same chance of dying from it, is very foolish indeed. They look at your planet and see collapsed economies, children dying from TB and malaria, middle aged people dying from untreated cancers and heart conditions and teenagers developing eating disorders and committing suicide, and they shake their heads in despair. They see how by spinning the progress of the disease out for month after month in vain attempts to contain it you have created ideal conditions for the virus to mutate, thanks to evolution and the power of immense numbers. On my planet we spent a fraction of what you spent on nonsensical and pointless test and trace systems and compensation for the financial consequences of of lockdowns and instead provided those people vulnerable to death and severe outcomes with protective equipment in the shape of isolation tents and hazmat suits. Then all the fit young people went to parties and caught what was, to them, nothing worse than a dose of flu. They became immune and this created a wall of immunity through which the virus could find no pathway. Being deprived of hosts, it rapidly died out and we got back on with our lives. Even on your planet where vaccines, although ineffective in the long term, ensure that fit and healthy people now suffer only a cold rather the flu, you still persist in believing that a virus which numbers three times the amount of stars in the visible universe can be beaten by making people walk six feet apart with bits of cloth over their faces. It really is very sad.

@indricotherium4802 It seems that perhaps our planets aren't so different after all! Hazmat suits for everybody would be a gross imposition, I think and this is where we must part company. They should be voluntary and it should be made clear to people who are vulnerable that they might die, and to the fit and healthy that they may suffer something like the flu -perhaps badly, perhaps not, if they choose not to take up the offer. The seriously bedridden or semi mobile elderly could have isolation tents. So that was my answer to that. The disadvantage of everyone wearing a hazmat is that no-one becomes immune and if only a small pocket of virus survives, or gets in from another country, then it would spread like wildfire and people would have to keep popping in and out of their hazmats perhaps for years to come. My government would prefer the healthy working population not to wear them, and to take their chances, I might even offer a financial reward to anyone who becomes infected. My scheme would of course involve some degree of hospitalisations and possible long term damage to some, but this is the price which would have to be paid in the interests of liberty and permanent exclusion of the disease. What a shame the ignorant politicians fail to recognise the genius of the likes of you and I!

@indricotherium4802 The objections to your scheme are many, not the least of which is that people simply won't put up with it. The demonstrations against masks and lockdowns have been considerable. Do you really think people are going to put up with being expected to pad around in hazmat suits? They won't do it, and if you try to make them, they will rebel. The only route to herd immunity is through infection, not legislation. You left wingers are just too fond of throwing your weight about. It goes with your extreme risk eversion and lack of courage. On my planet we understand the idea of risking the lives and welfare of a few for the benefit of the many. Life without the freedom to take risks is no life at all. Unlike influenzas, novel coronaviruses are extremely rare and appear to be very localised and to fizzle out quite quickly.. This one was almost certainly man-made and this is the only reason it has gained ascendancy. Future engineered viruses of this kind is what we have to fear and there may well be no defence against them. We are fortunate that this one has such a low and specific fatality profile. We have to learn to adapt quickly to new threats , and not just go into shotgun panic mode. This time we have killed far, far more people than we have saved through clumsy and blinkered thinking. It must not be allowed to happen again.

The point you fail to grasp is that people who are willing to risk catching the disease should be encouraged to do so, since this builds up a cordon of protection around the rest. Those who ought not to catch it , because it might kill them, should be protected by wearing hazmats when out and about, or be contained in isolation tents at home. No bullying. No rebellion. No policemen dragging screaming protestors by the hair. All voluntary. No power trip for you lefty authoritarians, but you'll just have to put up with that. It does astonish me how people of your mindset have delighted in the opportunity to worry yourselves to death, make up tons of needless rules and justify your psychotic need for control and certainty which has been offered to you by this pandemic. I don't know if it is something in your genes or simply the result of poor potty training but it is rather disturbing. And you have the cheek to call us libertarians fascists! I thought I'd covered your point about what happens when and if small pockets of re-infection appear. With herd immunity they will fizzle out quickly. Under your scheme they will of course give you the opportunity to get into a delightful panic and go about getting your self-righteous kicks by bullying the rest of us into conformity.

@jimbop4499 Why so? Afghanistan is Saigon, the Bay of Pigs and the Iran hostage crisis combined - and then some. Confidence in American military superiority upon which its status largely depends has been utterly shattered. America is being held hostage by a gang of cave-dwelling religious fanatics. Unlike Saigon etc this one will run and run. The Taliban are selling the Yanks aviation fuel so they can ship their people out and selling the attack helicopters they left behind to the Russians. It's not a good look. It will look even worse when the Taliban start executing everyone who has worked for the Americans and the Americans either do nothing about it or start another war they won't win. Off the planet as usual. The deal was dependent on a May deadline, after which all bets were off. There was supposed to be air cover to prevent Taliban troop movements. If the plan had been followed through as agreed the Americans - and us - would have been out of there months ago with no casualties. We could have taken the 80,000 or so Afghanis whose lives are now forfeit with us too. Do you not realise the immense damage done when fools like you fall for an advertising campaign? Orange Man Bad indeed. Many Americans are beginning to realise what they lost in Donald Trump when they allowed him to be replaced with a senile stooge.

The plan he and his advisors had agreed took full account of the vagaries of the Afghan temperaments and was shored up with substantial bribes and threats. It would almost certainly have worked. We will never know because Biden abandoned it, resulting in the predictable chaos and agony we are now experiencing. Why is Trump self-censoring his web pages etc? Quite simply he knows full well that if he does not do so phrases will be taken out of context in order to create a false narrative for brainwashed, psychotic anti-Trumpers such as yourself that Biden's catastrophe was in some way his fault.
