I was talking about Blair's policy on immigration, continued to this day, and which by forcing an already antiquated sewage system to deal with a population several times the size it was designed for had created the basis for this nightmare. I believe myself that public utilities should be in the public domain, and that privatisation of them is wrong, but over-population has led to a situation which will cost many billions to put right.

It's worth remembering that the population of the area served by Thames Water has increased by at least a third and possibly even more over the past couple of decades, largely due to immigration. I doubt very much that the government will be willing to take on the task of dealing with all the shit this situation has produced.
