A sound idea in principle, but with the disadvantage that those who have died had an average life expectancy of less than two years, whereas the refugees can be expected to live a great deal longer and to breed.

@somedeveloperblokey Masks other than fully fitted masks with respirators are utterly useless. All intelligent politicians must realise that the Magic Mask imposition was only trotted out to keep the sheep on the pasture, and that it is now pointless to keep up the pretence.

@PurpleWhirple But masks, other than possibly high-standard fitted masks, don't prevent spread, do they? Aerosols not only pour out through the weave but billow out of the the sides and top in vast clouds, with the possibility of containing literally tens upon tens of millions of viruses. Masks are just a psychological prop, designed to make us all feel we are actually DOING something. On top of this, over -reliance on their magical powers has caused people to neglect other more effective safety measures - which is why ventilation is now being promoted as a more efficient way of slowing spread. Many people have died through working with other people in closed rooms, all thinking they were safe because they wore masks.

@Steve_Coates Yes , but all the specialists are far from in accord. And some surgeons don't wear masks in theatres and of those that do, many only do so because they feel it is expected of them. Also, when it comes to large numbers, such as the large numbers of coronaviruses expelled in a single breath, mathematicians would suggest that once you get over a few million. proportional risk does not increase or decrease in terms of percentages. Overall the risk ratios involved don't to any significant degree pan out in favour of masking, and this is clearly borne out by real world experience where mask mandates cannot be show to influence infection rates in any way.

@Steve_Coates But I am none of these things! All I can do is assess the opinions of those who are. Unlike you apparently, I do try to spread my enquiries further than the pontifications of those hired to give a semblance of credibility to the official, politically motivated doctrine.

@Steve_Coates I insist upon them. I would not dream of making an assertion unless backed by qualified expert opinion. The difficulty is, as I have pointed out, that the experts disagree on most issues.

@Steve_Coates But according to your logic the discrepancies between states which mask and those which do not should be immense. But they are not. Follow your own advice and check the mortality and hospitalisation rates and you will find it impossible to discover a direct correlation. The same with European countries where Sweden, with no mask mandates, currently has close to zero deaths and cases. It just doesn't wash. Among all the factors - demographics, climate, population density etc - which affect a country, state or region's "performance" it is impossible to detect masking as a significant factor any more than political affiliation. At the beginning of the pandemic Republican states had lower death rates as a rule, now Democratic ones do. Why? Probably because voting patterns and viral distribution patterns have nothing whatsoever in common. I don't know where you get the 99.9% from. Until the first few weeks of the pandemic every medical advisory body in in the world, just about, offered guidance advising against the use of masks by the general public. Then it suddenly changed, and it had nothing to do with some sudden scientific insight. It was a purely political decision which scientists who know which side their bread is buttered on found it convenient to support. Many old-school professors, retired or tenured beyond removal, and people who run private clinics, continue to sign wearily at the nonsense.

@judet5426 The vast majority do, but according to a survey published by the Royal Society of Medicine in 2015 4% of surgeons do not wear masks and 20% said they only did so to respect tradition and 40% complained of problems with fogging up their glasses etc. All pretty irrelevant now anyway. If you're double vaxxed getting a dose of covid will give you a huge level of immunity at the cost of a runny nose. If you're fit and healthy, throw the damn thing away.t

@susanstanleyhammond5699 We have physical room, certainly but there is little room left in the hearts of many British people. Neither have we planned for the influx in terms of service, infrastructure and job opportunities. The UK population 2030 is likely to be around 9 million more than was estimated in1994 - and all due to immigration. If we are duty bound to change our expectations for the future and our way of life to accommodate people from other countries it should be because they are under threat and have nowhere else to go - not just because they rather fancy coming here.

@susanstanleyhammond5699 I abstained in that vote, as it happens, but I am entirely convinced that the present supply difficulties will be swiftly overcome and that the wages of lorry-drivers and production line workers will rise as a prerequisite of this. I have never done any manual labour myself, and do not propose to start now. I am however considering starting my own YouTube channel once I master the technology. What do you think?

@susanstanleyhammond5699 Some people - such as yourself - clearly do read my posts on channels such as this and it gives me enormous pleasure to taunt the more foolish of my respondents, as well as to have stimulating exchanges of views with the more intelligent among you. I admit - somewhat shamefacedly - that I do occasionally post on more right-wing channels in order to boost my sagging ego by collecting likes. I've topped the thousand mark twice and scored a 450 earlier this week but the whole process does make me feel rather uncomfortable for some reason. Perhaps a YouTube channel would provide more satisfaction. As for my personal qualities, which you disparage so readily, you are quite close to the mark in some respects, although not with regards to the money.

@susanstanleyhammond5699 Well I wasn't actually BRAGGING as such, merely countering your assertion that no-one reads my posts. I regard it, as I said, as simply looking for approval, which is a sort of weakness, really. I do quite like old Jeff as it happens, but I don't think he and his kind poison society in any way. HIs views are entirely respectable and well grounded, as indeed are those of the host of this channel on some occasions.

@susanstanleyhammond5699 I agree his presentation leaves a great deal to be desired. I'm happy to say he has recently taken to recording outside in more relaxed garb. Getting the right "look" for a YouTube channel must be quite hard. Jeff may resemble a funeral director but, Phil very much resembles a corpse in a condition of temporary animation.

And adjust they should. Those that do so are generally welcomed eventually, but those who insist on imposing their dreadful inward-looking cultures on us have no right to our acceptance. They don't even want it anyway.
