Don't take journalism so seriously - that's the answer. The humble hacks labouring in this sordid profession are just trying to scratch a living, often under immense pressure and with deadlines and the threat of the sack constantly hanging over their heads. Take pity.

@peterebel7899 It's not broken, so why mend it? The British media is what it always has been - ultimately a bastion of freedom against state control of thought and behaviour. Journalists should not be treated any differently to any other person. If they break the law - then prosecute them. But don't bend the law to make journalism a special target.

What makes you suppose that journalists are in any way different to other individuals in terms of rights and responsibilities? Sounds to me tough you have been swallowing some cockeyed thinking here.
