@ I am quite educated. And I don't know what's so bad about Russia that people hate it so irrationally.

What's wrong with Russia, exactly?

@31Blaize It's a country which has successfully escaped the horrors of Communism and has seen the standard of living of its people shoot up phenomenally over the past thirty years. It scores in the middle range on the World Happiness Index, and does considerably better than Ukraine in this regard.

@siarlb8115 No it isn't. Do you even know what an oxymoron is?

@mrw1160 Say something wonderful about Ukraine or Islam. That'll get through.

@lidbass Putin has to be tough - although so many stories about him turn out to be false that his alleged propensity for defenestration might I think be exaggerated. He's very intelligent and pragmatic and has survived for more than 20 years in what must be one of the most difficult jobs in the world. I find myself quite admiring him.

@bluefarie10 But these all surely refer to an older Russia than the one today? As far as I can see Russia is getting more liberal and laid back while, for instance, Britain is becoming more and more totalitarian. I 've read all of the above ,apart from the Snyder, and I must say I can't see how they can possibly be cited to justify the present paranoia about the Russian Federation and its leader.

@stuartmiller2384 Tommy Robinson, like many other working class men and women, is in prison because he has dared to defy the ruling globalist elite. His sentence is out of all proportion to his offence, as are the sentences of many other dissidents. There are more people in jail in this country for making social media posts than there are in Russia. The government is planning to enshrine in law what already happens in practice - more lenient sentences for Moslems and others whose "culture" excuses them from following the precepts of civilised Christian behaviour. That's THE LAW!!! Do you understand that?

@lidbass I'll agree with you about the Russian military - and Putin would too! The military is crap but he doesn't dare do anything about it in case they turn on him. I was thinking more about the overall perception of Russia, and about people being poverty-stricken and oppressed. Since this war started I've been accessing blogs and videos from Russians and Westerners living in Russia and they all show a peaceful, well-ordered and reasonably prosperous country where you really do have to work on it to get into trouble. As for sexuality - there's one false story for a start. Putin legalised homosexuality and simply restricts its open promulgation - especially to children. It's a view any civilised person should share.

@iandennis7836 Russia is and always has been a tough country to run. It is based of bribery and corruption and there's nothing you can do about it. Having said that Vladimir Putin is far, far from being the worse sort of person you could have in control. And Lavrov is a great statesman. I really think there is something seriously psychotic about this deep inner need so many left-leaning people have to find someone to hate.

@RobertGabriel-u4q One way round the problem, I suppose.

@goodvibes5220 Truth and fiction are interwoven here. Putin is no saint and, as you rightly say, he holds ruthlessly on to power. The alternative would almost certainly be anarchy upon which Western powers would fall like vultures. But what has this to do with us? One point upon which I believe you are totally incorrect is that Putin wishes to recreate the Russian empire. He has to pay lip service to the idea, but has said many times that , in practice, this is neither practical nor even desirable. One of the reasons the USSR collapsed was because it was over-extended and he doesn't want the Russian Federation to fall into the same trap. This is why I say fears about Russia are irrational. As far as Ukraine is concerned, Russia has a very good case. It is not a true country. This word "sovereign" which is bandied about so frequently has little meaning, any more than do these "international laws" people get so huffy about. All Russia wants is to get back those bits of Russia which were mistakenly included in the new country of Ukraine when it was created in 1991. Another error is this nonsense about "kidnapped" children. These are Russian children from Russian families in the war zone who have been taken to Russia for safety. Many of them have relatives there, and are later joined by their parents.

@matthewhendy5785 Depends if they work or not. They are better than the anarchy which follows attempt to impose democracy on nations which are not used to it.

@deborahdonnelly8423 I'm 76. Which is why I know that the Cold War was to do with resisting Communism, and not being afraid of Russia as a country.

This channel is becoming increasingly paranoid.
