You ignore the fact that the majority of the rubber boat people are NOT refugees. They are economic migrants; often healthy young men who are chancing their arm on escaping to a better life from whatever shithole country they come from. Well, hard luck. Once word gets around that a channel crossing means transportation to Rwanda the UK will seem a far less attractive destination.

@cooperfarncmbe Strictly speaking a genuine refugee/asylum seeker must arrive here directly from the country he/she is fleeing from. That means by air or boat not stopping at any intermediate place. I realise of course that a wealth of precedent has been created to circumvent this regulation but I hope that such precedents may be overturned by a more robust and independent immigration policy in the UK. In the meantime any measures which stem the tide are to be welcomed, even if they are mainly psychological barriers.
