You're not far off. Isn't it wonderful? I think sanctions will be lifted too.

Those that are immediately accessible are in the Russian-controlled East. The stuff in the West is there in theory but far less accessible and really not worth the investment of trying to get it out.
2
Nothing wacko about it. This antagonism towards Russia is a just a Cold War leftover and has to be got rid of.

There are no immediately accessible rare earth minerals in Western Ukraine. Those that there are - mainly lithium - are in Eastern territories under Russian control. Trump knows this and Zelensky knows this, but because - like Phil - he thinks Trump is thick he doesn't know that Trump knows this. Trump isn't thick. Far from it. He may be no intellectual and has probably never read a book in his life, but he has an immense amount of animal cunning. OK, it sometimes misfires but in this instance he is well on his way to arrive at a swift, peaceful solution in Ukraine which leaves the US recovering much of the money it has thrown away and welcomes Russia -finally - into a meaningful and equitable relationship with the rest of the world. Idiots like Starmer and his gaggle of globalist no-hopers are going to be out in the cold as Trump and Putin divvy up trade and resources and lay the foundations for a prosperous - and peaceful - future.

@ Plunder is the wrong word. The mineral resources i Eastern Ukraine belong largely to Russian companies and are worked almost exclusively by Russian labour. Any "plundering" was what would have happened if Ukraine had joined the EU and forced the Russians to give them up.
1
Russian businesses already largely own the only viable mineral rights in Ukraine.
1
Except in the East where the mining already takes place and which, of course, is done by Russians.
1
Of ourse he does. And what's wrong with that?
1
@emm_arr He did what he had to do. If he hadn't, Ukraine would have invaded Donbass.
1
That's the majority of brainwashed normies, is it?
1
The trouble with your analysis is that the minerals in question were are in mines owned by Russians, and worked by Russians, and which benefit the Russian economy, as they have done for centuries. America (and finance companies) wanted to get their hands on them and started this war in order to obtain them with the simple expenditure of several billions of dollars in defunct armaments. It hasn't worked out ,and now the new America, under Trump, will obtain a fair share of these minerals through a process of negotiation.
1
Trump already knows this. Zelensky thinks he doesn't and has walked into a trap. The only accessible minerals are in the Russian-controlled areas in the East and Trump and Putin are already discussing deals. So much more civilised than going to war over them, don't you think?

And a good thing too.

They are both pragmatic men. Friendly relations between the two countries can only be good for trade and world peace.

@wavemaker54 The idea that Ukraine gave up its nuclear weapons for security assurances is a myth. It never had any to give up, and when it allowed Soviet weapons stationed on its territory to be removed it was part of a complex series of negotiations in which such assurances played a relatively small part. Trump knows that Ukraine cannot win this fight, so he's not sending good money after bad and is, in fact, siding with the winner in order to recoup some of America's losses. This is eminently pragmatic. You have to realise that you have been subjected to years and years of programming by Trump's enemies and all you are doing is repeating your lessons in a Pavlovian response. Have a biscuit.
