@timothyharris4708 It's not an accusation, but an observation and yes - I'm as guilty as anyone! (How did you get on with Patrick Lancaster, by the way? He has disappeared over the last four or five days. Gonzalo Lira had a run-in with the Ukrainian Secret Police, but has emerged after a week somewhat chastened but relatively unharmed.)

Crimea was never Ukraine. It was merely stapled on in 1954 as a matter of administrative convenience. In fact Ukraine was never Ukraine until 1991. Before that it was THE Ukraine - a province of the Russian Empire and then a Soviet Socialist Republic, run from Moscow.

@jounik Yeltsin did. But he was pissed. Anyway Ukraine hasn't honoured the Minsk Agreements on Donbass, so they can lose Donetsk and Luhansk as well as Crimea, with Kherson thrown in for good measure.
