  3.  @casteretpollux  I find myself in agreement with much of what you say. I strongly believe in closer ties with Russia, rather than it being treated as some kind of pariah. The problems have more to do with the career ambitions of US hawks than anything else. Sabre rattling gets votes and armchair generals get more stars on their sleeves when they indulge in brinkmanship. But I still think Britain's role is relatively minor. Because of NATO we have to be seen to do our part -which rather begs the question: what's the point of NATO anyway? The UK military is really just a mercenary force when you come down to it. It's small, but it's good at its job and this is why the US orders its deployment. I can't see much of a shooting war developing in the Ukraine, just a stand -off. Common sense and pragmatism will hopefully be restored if Trump or one of his surrogates gain the Presidency in 2024.
